What data it needs
The metal, the weight, the unit and the purity or fineness. With that it calculates the fine weight and multiplies it by the current spot.
What it gives you back
The current value of the metal in your piece, the price per ounce that was used and, if you enter your purchase price, the difference between the two.
What it does not include
It does not include the premium or the collector value. A collector piece can be worth more, or less, than its metal. It also does not include taxes, shipping costs or selling fees.
A reference, not a guarantee
The result does not guarantee that you can buy or sell at that price on the platform. For the details of the calculation, see the metal value calculator in the Encyclopedia.
An example
A silver coin with one ounce of fine weight contains one ounce of pure silver. With that figure and the day's spot, the calculator does the rest and gives you the value of that metal.
